Jub Jub says latest court case is costing him work

Media personality, Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye’s, lawyer says his client’s latest court case is taking a significant toll on his career, claiming he is no longer receiving as many bookings and public appearances as he did.

Maarohanye briefly appeared before the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on Monday, after a conditional warrant of arrest was issued against him for previously failing to appear in court.

The ‘Ndikhokhele’ hitmaker is accused of kidnapping, unlawfully discharging a firearm in public and defeating the ends of justice.

It is alleged that Jub Jub fired a shot in the direction of an e-hailing driver whom he accused of having an affair with his girlfriend.

Speaking outside court, Maarohanye’s lawyer, Terence Baloyi, says his client was under significant stress.

“It’s a big problem for him, you know, but he chose to be a public figure, so some of these other things are part and parcel of the trade.  But he feels really sad that such things keep coming up when he is doing all he can to try and be a productive, you know, member of society.”

Baloyi added that minor issues were being blown out of proportion and were having a serious impact on his client.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it has finalised its investigations and is ready to proceed with the prosecution.

The matter has been postponed to 17 September for disclosure of the docket, after the State requested more time to furnish the defence with its contents.

Maarohanye is currently out on R5,000 bail.

He also faces charges of possession of an imitation firearm with the intent to commit an offence, as well as pointing at anything likely to cause a person to believe that it is a firearm.
