Former Orlando Pirates player, Eugene Zwane, has named a Kaizer Chiefs star and three Buccaneers among his picks for the PSL Footballer of the Season award.

Zwane was speaking during the Toyota Cup launch at Naturena on Tuesday, where he was representing the Jozi Legends.

The former striker believes that goalkeepers Brandon Petersen and Sipho Chaine deserve recognition following their impressive performances and clean-sheet records this season.

He also included Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis in his shortlist for the award.

Zwane explained why he believes Mofokeng may have the edge over Appollis, despite the former Polokwane City talisman’s consistency throughout the season.

“There’s a few, I think the two goalkeepers from Pirates and Chiefs by virtue of their clean sheets and their outstanding performances. They deserve to be there. I’m talking about Chaine and Petersen,” said Zwane.

“I think Relebohile Mofokeng for by virtue of the fact that his contribution has been by far the biggest in the Pirates team. I think Apollis has been far more consistent than Mofokeng,” he added.

“But Mofokeng’s contribution is bigger. So, I think they both should be there. For me, those will be the four players in contention for the Player of the season.”
