Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, has given an honest assessment of 21-year-old attacker Relebohile Mofokeng’s move to Belgian Pro League side, Royal Union Saint-Gilloise.
The transfer was confirmed by Orlando Pirates on Tuesday afternoon in an official statement.
Mofokeng leaves the Buccaneers in a deal reported to be worth around R70 million.
The move comes after a stellar season for Pirates, where he played a key role in securing a domestic treble, including a first league title in 14 years, as well as South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Broos expressed his optimism but maintained a level of honesty about the challenges ahead.
“I think it’s a good thing for him, and he will progress, but we mustn’t expect that he will play from the first day,” the veteran coach explained.
“I think he will progress, but Rele must be stronger; it’s a very tough competition in Belgium, and in the first five to six months they will work a lot on his physical strength,” the Belgian added.
