South African music superstar, Tyla, continues to fly the country’s flag high after winning two awards at the 52nd American Music Awards in Los Angeles.

The global sensation took home the awards for Social Song of the Year and Best Afrobeats Artist for her hit 2026 single, Chanel.

Tyla also made history as the first international artist to win in the Social Song of the Year category.

Further cementing herself as one of Africa’s biggest global exports, she was the only African artist to walk away with an award on the night.

The latest wins add to the South Africa-born star’s growing list of international accolades following her historic Grammy win in 2024.

Tyla was nominated in four categories at this year’s AMAs, including Best Female R&B Artist and Best Music Video, where she competed against international stars such as SZA.

Other big winners on the night included Sabrina Carpenter, who won the awards for Album of the Year, Best Female Pop Artist and Best Pop Album. Bruno Mars won awards for Best Male R&B Artist, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Album.

The Water hitmaker’s winning streak could continue next month, as she is also nominated for two awards at the 2026  BET Awards.
