Controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has once again lost his bid for freedom.
The High Court in Johannesburg on Monday dismissed his application challenging the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court decision to deny him bail.
Matlala, accused of orchestrating a botched attack on his ex-girlfriend and media personality, Tebogo Thobejane, which left her injured and a friend with a serious spinal injury — had requested R100,000 bail with house arrest conditions.
The court ruled that releasing him would not be in the interest of justice.

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has featured prominently at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into corruption and abuse of power in the South African Police Service.
Testimonies place him at the centre of alleged backdoor dealings and undue influence over senior law enforcement officials, including suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya and General Feroz Khan.
Matlala is also accused of orchestrating the 2024 kidnapping of Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga. Witness C told the commission that investigators found a sheet tied to a window at Matlala’s home, resembling one seen in Boshoga’s ransom video.
Boshoga disappeared in November last year after a meeting in Centurion.

So in the “interest of justice”, KT Molefe is to be released on bail, however in the same “interest of justice” Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala is ‘NOT’ to be released on bail, yet their crimes are more or less the same thing.

Vusi Cat Matlala was definitely getting bail on Friday 24 October 2025.
Reserving the judgement further with the bail denial, in Monday 27 Oct, shows a new judgement was written.
That Madlanga Commission testimony last week brought a lot more scrutiny on the bail application.
