It seems like Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, might not be able to return to South Africa after she and her mother failed to make representations on why they should keep their South African Identity Documents (IDs).

Adetshina and her mother, Anabela Rungo, have been embroiled in an alleged identity fraud scandal after South Africans questioned the model’s heritage and identity during her bid to become Miss South Africa.

The public outcry led to an investigation by Home Affairs and the Hawks, which forced the model’s withdrawal from the pageant, citing concerns for her family’s safety as reason for the move.

Months after the move and concerns over silence on the matter, the home affairs leadership finally shed light on developments in Parliament today.

The department’s Director General, Tommy Makhode, revealed that they have decided to cancel the pairs’ IDs and travel documents.

The department also informed Parliament’s portfolio committee on home affairs that the matter is now with the Hawks, who could push for the two to be charged for fraud.

Makhode also revealed that officials visited a house registered under Adetshina to track her mother down, but they found no one there.

It remains a mystery though as to how Adetshina’s mother was able to leave the country to Nigeria last month to support her daughter at Miss Universe Nigeria pageant while under investigation.

“We couldn’t find a trace of the passport that she has been using to come to South Africa from Mozambique on the movement to Nigeria,” the acting Deputy Director-General for immigration, Albert Matsaung, told MPs.

This comes just days ahead of Adetshina’s participation in the Miss Universe finale, which will be held in Mexico City on the 17th of next month, where she will be representing Nigeria.

Miss Universe South Africa Mia Le Roux is also getting ready to show what the country is made off when she takes to the stage for the most coveted title, where contestants from around the globe will be hoping to win the crown.

“I’m proud and honoured to be the first deaf contestant in Miss Universe.”

Social media users are meanwhile also having their say on the new development on Adetshina.

Good! Chidimma should’ve sorted all this before it goes this far if she was really innocent on this matter
