Today’s proceedings in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court, in the North West, got off to a shaky start after six members of the Tactical Response Team had to be deployed to protect the investigating officer in the matter.
Sergeant Keshi Mabunda says he has been receiving death threats after Agnes Setshwantsho’s arrest.
The 49-year-old was arrested in Centurion after a two-month intelligence operation, which included the man who put Rosemary Ndlovu behind bars, Sergeant Keshi Mabunda.
She is accused of murdering her niece, Bonolo Modiseemang, for an insurance payout.
Her relatives tipped-off the police after she allegedly took out R3 million insurance payout on behalf of a family member, prior to her murder.
It is also alleged that she has insured 40 of her other relatives. She is also suspected of having killed her husband, son and two daughters.
The four died in 2005, 2015, 2016 and 2023, respectively, after which she claimed large sums of money from life cover policies.
She faces charges of murder, fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
Her bail hearing will continue on the 11th of next month.
Mabunda has pleaded with the court not to grant her bail, fearing she would evade trial.
