Death row inmate Christa Pike awake and talking after failed execution Lindiwe Mpanza
Christa Pike was supposed to become the first woman executed by Tennessee in more than 200 years.
Instead, something happened that has put her case back at the center of the news.
On Wednesday, Tennessee attempted to execute Pike by lethal injection for the 1995 murder of 19 year old Colleen Slemmer. But according to witnesses, officials administered two doses of the lethal drug and still could not complete the execution. Pike remained alive and was taken from the prison by ambulance.
The attempt came hours after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Tennessee to proceed, overturning a last minute stay.
Now the biggest question is what happens next after an execution that never actually happened.
Was this a medical failure, or could it trigger another legal battle?

Christa Pike grew up in poverty, was sexually abused and suffered bipolar disorder.
At 18, she was sentenced to death for murder.
Now 50 years old, her execution by legal injection failed twice.
❌ The death penalty is vile, whether in China 🇨🇳, Iran 🇮🇷 or the US 🇺🇸. https://t.co/fb2r6AU80W
