Speculation is mounting that expelled uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) member, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, could find a new political home in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The speculation follows a message of support from EFF leader, Julius Malema, who said he knows Zuma-Sambudla is strong and will overcome the challenges following her expulsion from her father’s party.

Zuma-Sambudla and former MK Party national spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, were expelled with immediate effect.

The party says the pair acted in a manner inconsistent with its values, constitution and disciplinary code.

MK Party secretary-general, Sibonelo Nomvalo, confirmed that their membership has been terminated, and that they will no longer enjoy any rights, privileges or authority within the organisation.

“By virtue of Section 2H of the Constitution, the President shall have the ultimate power to issue presidential decrees on any matter pertaining to the operation, administration, and policy direction of the party in the interest of the party, which shall be binding on all levels of the organisation. ”

“The President may determine and convene policy and consultative conferences to discuss issues and matters deemed important for the growth of the organisation.”

The expulsions come amid ongoing tensions within the party. In May, Ndhlela was removed as national spokesperson and replaced by former journalist, Sifiso Mahlangu.

While neither Zuma-Sambudla nor the EFF has indicated that she may join the party, Malema’s public show of support has fueled speculation about her political future.

Zuma-Sambudla resigned as a Member of Parliament in November last year following allegations linking her to the alleged trafficking of 17 young South African men to war-torn Ukraine. She has however repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
