Kaizer Chiefs have officially ventured into the women’s footballing space, unveiling their newly formed side, Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, in Daveyton on Tuesday.
The move marks a historic milestone for the Soweto Giants, who have long faced pressure to establish a women’s team in line with Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements.
The Glamour Girls squad consists of 24 players, including veteran Banyana Banyana midfielder, Mamello Makhabane.
The team will be coached by Unathi Mabena, who will be assisted by Justice Khunou.
Chiefs Ladies will play their home games at the Kaizer Chiefs Village and the Kwa Thema Stadium in Springs.
The club’s marketing director, Jessica Motaung, described the launch as a significant step for both Kaizer Chiefs and South African football.
“This is a proud moment for Kaizer Chiefs. As a Club, we understand the responsibility we carry within South African football, and this step reflects our commitment to growing the game in a meaningful way,” she said. “Women’s football is an important part of the future, and we are committed to being part of that journey. When you build something of this nature, you must think beyond the present moment.”
Fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the team in action, with dates for thestart of the 2026 Sasol Women’s League yet to be confirmed.
