Politician and activist, Anele Mda, is calling on authorities to widen their scope in the investigation into the sex for jobs scandal that has rocked the Eastern Cape government.

Mda alleges that there are interns in the office of the Premier who have been subjected to abuse of power by having to sleep their way up.

This follows allegations against Thandolwethu Manda, the head of the Eastern Cape’s Public Works Department, who was recently placed on suspension for allegedly demanding sex from colleagues.

She urged Mabuyane not to confine his probe into the scandal to the public works department only.

“You are not going to do it as per your wish and desire,” she said.

After the scandal on Manda broke, journalist, Luyolo Mketane, accused powerful men in Bhisho of having institutionalised rape.

“The sex-for-jobs phenomenon has been going on for decades in the provincial capital, where managers have made it a norm to demand sexual favours from their vulnerable subordinates, PAs and interns.”
