Musician, Taylor Swift, says a world without Dolly Parton “doesn’t feel possible, right or real.”

Heartfelt tributes continue to pour in following the death of the country music legend, who died at the age of 80, after a brief battle with cancer.

Parton’s family says she passed away peacefully at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Centre in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by loved ones.

She was one of the most celebrated artists in music history, popularly known as the “Queen of Country”, with a career spanning more than six decades.

Parton became a global icon through timeless hits including “Jolene”, “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You”, while also earning admiration for her philanthropy and influence beyond music.

Announcing her death, her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver, said Parton lived a full and extraordinary life.

“Dolly opened doors not just for me, but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible. Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians, and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent. By her example, we believe that anything is possible.

“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the door she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist, becoming an extended part of your family whether you liked it or not.”

Seaver said the family and team entrusted with Parton’s legacy will work diligently to ensure her spirit lives on.

Swift described Parton as someone who changed countless lives for the better and leaves behind an everlasting legacy.

Beyoncé, who featured Parton on her 2024 “Cowboy Carter” album, also paid tribute, describing her as “the barometer”.

“Bold and brilliant. Talented and tenacious. You taught so many lessons on how to be uniquely oneself. I am grateful for your art, your heart, your generosity, your humour, your entrepreneurship.”

In a moving tribute, actress and musician, Miley Cyrus, described Parton as a pure soul.

Aunt Dolly, as she would affectionately call her, was Cyrus’ godmother, with their connection dating back to her friendship with Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Cyrus also took to X, saying Parton would continue to live in the hearts of generations to come.

US President Donald Trump has also paid tribute to Parton, saying the American flag twill be flown at half-mast through out the week.
