Triple murder accused Tshuma abandons bail bid

Triple murder accused and British national, Ndodana Tshuma, has abandoned his bid for bail.

Tshuma appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where the State confirmed he is in the South Africa illegally and is considered a fugitive.

He appeared in connection with two separate matters, the extradition proceedings following a request by United Kingdom authorities and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Tshuma was arrested in South Africa after the bodies of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, and their two children, Natalie and Nala Tshuma, were discovered in their home in Bedfordshire, England earlier this month.

It is alleged that he intended to take his own life using the firearm he was found in possession of at the time of his arrest.

The matter has been postponed to 27 August.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says although Tshuma entered South Africa legally through OR Tambo International Airport earlier this month, his immigration status has subsequently changed after he became a wanted fugitive.

He was arrested in Kensington, Johannesburg, after the South African Police Service (SAPS), through INTERPOL, received a request from United Kingdom authorities to trace and apprehend him.

Tshuma is wanted in the UK on three counts of murder.

Thanks to the tireless work, tenacity, and dedication of our major crime unit, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, of Bedford, was arrested in South Africa today, just four days after an investigation was launched following a triple murder in Bedford.
