Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, says he is looking forward to South Africa hosting come of cricket’s biggest nations towards the end of the year as the Proteas begin the defence of their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) title.

Australia are set to tour South Africa in October, followed by Bangladesh in November and England later.

Speaking at an event in Alexandra to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Temba Bavuma Foundation, the Proteas skipper welcomed the challenging schedule.

“We are playing the big teams. It was not that long ago, everyone was saying we did not play the big teams.”

“Well, we have Australia and England, and even Bangladesh are playing good cricket. They have a good bowling lineup, so they will be a challenge in our bowler-friendly conditions.”

The captain also admitted that he is especially excited for the three-Test series against England.

“England is a summer tour we all look forward to. My favourite days in the calendar are the Boxing Day and New Year’s Tests. I look forward to hearing the Barmy Army sing,” he said.

The Proteas will also co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside Namibia and Zimbabwe.
