A 45-year-old media personality, believed to be Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, is now expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The suspect faces charges of kidnapping unlawfully discharging a firearm in public and defeating the ends of justice.

It is alleged that he fired a shot in the direction of an e-hailing driver whom he accused of having an affair with his girlfriend.

According to police spokesperson, Tintswalo Sibeko, the e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect.

“The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter,” said Sibeko.

This is not Jub Jub’s first brush with the law.

In 2010, he was convicted of culpable homicide and related offences following a drag-racing incident in Soweto that claimed the lives of four schoolchildren and left several others injured.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison but was released on parole in 2017 after serving part of his sentence.

In recent years, he has also faced other legal challenges, including allegations of rape and assault, involving actress Amanda du Pont, which he has denied.
