Popular Lekompo musician, Lehlogonolo “Shebe Maburna” Chauke has been denied bail for a third time.

The Limpopo-born star appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court today, facing nine charges including  attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

It’s alleged that the complainant and a friend were driving along Witklip Street in Ladanna, Polokwane, when they spotted the artist and greeted him out of excitement.

The bullet reportedly struck the complainant in the jaw and shattered the car window.

The State submitted to the court that the accused allegedly committed additional offences while out on bail in other matters before the Mankweng, Seshego, and Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Courts.

Magistrate, Geoffrey Netshiozwi, ruled that the accused failed to convince the court that his release would be in the interests of justice.

The musician has previously faced criminal charges. In 2022, he was charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. He also faces two counts of discharging a firearm after allegedly firing shots in the air at his family home in Limpopo.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Artist Movement’s chairperson, Mphoza Mashabela, says the artist is being treated unfairly.

“There’s no turning back for what we go, we want our artists out.”

“So you check other cases in Gauteng, you check the cases in Limpopo, we’ve been treated differently. So we are saying release Shebe or else we are going to break out of this magistrate court.”
