Political commentator, Goodenough Mashego, says the African National Congress (ANC) is not prepared for any form of revolution, as dissenting voices within the party continue to be silenced.

His remarks follow the ANC’s decision to take disciplinary action against National Executive Committee (NEC) members, Malusi Gigaba and Senzo Mchunu, over recent public comments.

Mchunu warned that the party risks losing power in upcoming local government elections, citing declining national support. Gigaba accused the ANC leadership of losing direction and being preoccupied with “their little corners”.

The ANC say they violated party communication protocols, accusing them of deliberately de-campaigning the organisation.
“These comrades are casting aspersions on the character and unity of the ANC, portraying the organisation as divided, incoherent and collapsing. These actions serve only the strategic agenda of counter-revolution and weaken the people’s confidence in their movement,” the party said in a statement.
Mashego says while discipline is necessary, silencing critical voices risks tearing the party apart. He warned that such intolerance may further alienate members and destabilise the organisation from within.
The analyst has also cast doubt on the ANC’s ongoing renewal efforts, questioning the sincerity of the campaign.
“The liberation movement’s so-called renewal campaign is just a facade being sold to the public,” Mashego claimed.
He added that while the ANC publicly promotes unity, its intolerance towards internal criticism reveals a lack of readiness for meaningful transformation.
