Former uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu has officially been expelled from the party.

The announcement was made during a media briefing held in Sandton earlier today.

The party used the platform to clarify its stance on Shivambu, stating that he has, over the past several months, acted in ways that contravene the organisation’s principles and standards.

Shivambu was demoted from his role as Secretary-General in June. Shortly after, he launched a new political initiative, the Mayibuye Consultation Process, citing a loss of faith in the MK Party as a vehicle for black liberation.

According to a party statement, Shivambu was served with a formal letter of expulsion on July 15. The letter accuses him of betraying the trust placed in him as a senior member of the organisation.

Party National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko suggested that Shivambu’s public remarks were central to his dismissal.

The party has since appointed Dr. Bongani Mncwango as the new Secretary-General.

Dr. Mncwango expressed a commitment to professionalising the party’s operations.

Shivambu has since accepted his expulsion saying he holds no grudges against any leader or member of the MK party.

National Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela revealed that the party is considering further legal action against President Cyril Ramaphosa, citing his evasive response to a recent letter from the MK Party.

Speaking on the sidelines of the briefing, Ndlela accused Ramaphosa of avoiding accountability.
