Proteas batter Ryan Rickelton may find himself at the top of the order when South Africa face long-time rivals Australia in their T20 International series, kicking off this Sunday.
With Reeza Hendricks omitted from the squad, Rickelton is likely to open alongside rising star Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
The series Down Under is one of three crucial assignments for the Proteas as they gear up for next year’s T20 World Cup.
After the Australia tour, the Proteas head to England for another white-ball series, followed by a full tour of India in November and December.
“This series is a big opportunity for me to claim that opening spot for future matches to come,” said Rickelton.
The 29-year-old also touched on the fierce rivalry between the two sides, saying they’re eager to notch a series win on Australian soil.
“The opportunity to win a series in Australia does not come around very often, so we are looking to make the most of it. We look forward to representing our country and overcoming the Aussies yet again.”
