Political commentator, Goodenough Mashego, says Wednesday’s motion of no confidence against Joburg mayor, Dada Morero, once again shows the decline of trust in the African National Congress (ANC).
His remarks come as Morero will live to see another day in office after the motion failed.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) had tabled the motion, saying Morero had failed to deliver basic services to the people of Johannesburg and that service delivery in the city has collapsed under his leadership.
A total of 144 councillors voted in Morero’s favour, 75 wanted him out while 43 others abstained, which includes ActionSA councillors.
The DA had also brought a motion against Chief Whip, Sithembiso Zungu, with 169 councillorS rejecting the motion, 69 were in support and six didn’t vote.
However, it was a bad in the office for ActionSA’s Nobuhle Mthembu was ousted as the council speaker.
Mashego describes ActionSA as a confused party.
Before the motion, Morero had expressed confidence that he was staying put.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg has slammed Morero’s victory as a betrayal to the residents of Joburg.
DA Johannesburg caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, says the parties have kept a failing mayor, and his failing executive in power, who have failed to deal with issues residents face on a daily.

It’s highly unlikely that Zille would be elected as mayor of Joburg in council. The numbers & political dynamics wouldn’t allow such a scenario. The next Joburg mayor will be from either the ANC or ActionSA. Your just overhyping Hellen Zille & exaggerating her influence.

The DA’s MONC is reckless without the numbers and a replacement strategy. It previously berated other parties for doing similar performative MONC’s. A council sitting costs both time and money, so using it for an intra-party election fight is a slap for Joburg citizens.

The opposition benches are far better than propping up an incompetent mayor like Dada Morero & telling voters to “be patient” with him😏we’re past that stage. People want service delivery, not empty promises. Dada had his chance and failed. Well done ActionSA pic.twitter.com/wpEhyXPsov

ActionSA is complacent in what Dada Morero is doing COJ under his leadership, corruption, nepotism and looting of monies. Next year voters won’t forget what you did. Ask ANC and Ramaphosa who was complacent during Zuma administration, they punished the.
