Political commentator, Goodenough Mashego, says Wednesday’s motion of no confidence against Joburg mayor, Dada Morero, once again shows the decline of trust in the African National Congress (ANC).

His remarks come as Morero will live to see another day in office after the motion failed.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) had tabled the motion, saying Morero had failed to deliver basic services to the people of Johannesburg and that service delivery in the city has collapsed under his leadership.

A total of 144 councillors voted in Morero’s favour, 75 wanted him out while 43 others abstained, which includes ActionSA councillors.

The DA had also brought a motion against Chief Whip, Sithembiso Zungu, with 169 councillorS rejecting the motion, 69 were in support and six didn’t vote.

However, it was a bad in the office for ActionSA’s Nobuhle Mthembu was ousted as the council speaker.

Mashego describes ActionSA as a confused party.

Before the motion, Morero had expressed confidence that he was staying put.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg has slammed Morero’s victory as a betrayal to the residents of Joburg.

DA Johannesburg caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, says the parties have kept a failing mayor, and his failing executive in power, who have failed to deal with issues residents face on a daily.
