Social media users have expressed concern for TV host, Gayle King, who is set to embark on a space trip in one of billionaire Jeff Bezos’ rocket ships this year.

The 70-year-old will be joining Bezos’ fiancé, Lauren Sánchez; musician Katy Perry; research scientist, Amanda Nguyen; former NASA engineer, Aisha Bowe, and film producer, Kerianne Flynn.

Speaking during an interview, King revealed that she was terrified about the looming experience. She says she agreed to go after consulting with her children and best friend, Oprah Winfrey.

This will be the 11th human flight mission for the New Shepard programme and the 31st in its history.

To date, the programme has flown 52 people above the Kármán line, the internationally recognised boundary of space.

The last time women travelled to space without a man on board was 62 years ago, when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space in 1963.

Gayle says this was never her dream.

“This was never my dream. It was never my dream. And somebody said, maybe you need to have new dreams, Gayle.”

Her fans says there’s no need for her to go on the mission.
