Calls are mounting on the government to account for Chidimma Adetshina’s citizenship saga after she was spotted in Cape Town on Sunday.
The former Miss SA contestant further ruffled feathers when she posted an Instagram story saying: “Was good to be back in Cape Town.”

In October last year, the Department of Home Affairs announced that it had canceled Adetshina and her mother’s IDs and travel documents after they failed to adhere to an order to make submissions as to why their documents shouldn’t be revoked.
The department’s investigation had found that there was prima facie evidence that her mother may have committed fraud and identity theft.
The former Miss SA contestant took the country by storm last year after joining the pageant before it was revealed that she wasn’t eligible to run for the title.
Questions remain over how the fugitive managed to re-enter the country.
She raised the ire of many, who slammed her for disregarding South African laws and her nonchalant attitude towards those affected by the possible fraud committed by her and her mother.
Adetshina, who made it to Miss SA’s top 16 before she withdrew, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria.
She then emerged as Miss Universe First Runner-Up 2024.
In an interview with a Nigerian News Channel, TVC, on Christmas day, she said she felt betrayed by South Africans.
The pageant queen maintains that because she was born in South Africa, she is South African.
“When I made it to the top 16, it became a huge spark where people were like how is a Chidimma South African, you know? So, then people were not happy, or should I say South Africans were not happy and felt like I was not a good representative for SA and felt like I was stealing a South African’s spot which I felt was very unfair because I’m South African.”
When asked how she is a South African, Adetshinna says she was born in South Africa to Nigerian parents.
We all know that Miss Chidimma is a Nigerian citizen meaning she got Nigerian documents…She can travel around the world without South African documents. https://t.co/tsrcGIBNPE

Chidimma’s SA identity was revoked, making her stateless with no valid identity documents. To get a Nigerian passport, she would need to prove citizenship/have a birth certificate, which she doesn’t. I get that Nigeria overlooks crime, but @Leon_Schreib your incompetency is showing🚮 https://t.co/tg69DXzswA

Chidimma left and entered South Africa the same way young girls are human trafficked in South Africa daily! https://t.co/u94v5dXtyt

the issue of Chidimma Adetshina leaving and entering the country whenever she feels like it, when her fraudulent identity was revoked is not something to be taken likely or overlooked. Is this how our young girls are getting trafficked outside of the country? @Leon_Schreib.

Chidimma Adetshina has a diplomatic passport. She can go anywhere in the world and some parts of heaven.
You on the other hand should log out and go eat your porridge without sugar. https://t.co/rWL9NqWwHI— SUPERIOR LOGIC🇿🇦🇬🇧 (@LezzzIsMo) February 11, 2025
Can y’all stop being Xenophobic and leave Chidimma alone? We have bigger problems as a country and Chidimma is not one of them. Afrikaaners are conspiring with Elon. We are also facing sanctions

According to the country’s migration laws, one parents of a child born in South Africa should be a citizen for them to get a citizenship. If born to foreign parents, the child may be a South African citizen if their birth was registered in the country, and they have no citizenship in any other country.
