Family wants Amantle’s alleged killer to rot in jail

The mother of the 6-year-old, Amantle Samane, who was raped and killed in Orlando East, Soweto, says the suspect has no place in society and must stay behind bars.

Pethe Sara Simiao was nabbed last night, hours after community members took to the streets searching for leads of where he could have been hiding.

The suspect allegedly strangled the 6-year-old to death after she screamed during her ordeal.

Amantle’s mom, Ntombizodwa Samane, says despite the pain, she is relieved that the suspect is behind bars.

She says on the day she lost her daughter; she had gone to the store and when she couldn’t find her daughter upon her return, she went to various houses with the hope of finding her.

One of the boys in the neighbourhood was the one who told her about her daughter’s whereabouts.

Samane described Amantle as a child who loved to play and could defend herself well.

Gauteng police commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, expressed concern about the harbouring of illegal immigrants by some South Africans who are renting out backyard rooms to the undocumented persons.

According to Mthombeni, Simiao is also in the country illegally.

Mthombeni also revealed that the landlord of the home where six-year-old Amantle was raped and murdered could be criminally charged.

The Portfolio Committee on Community in Gauteng has also weighed in on the tragedy and has called for more efficient means of documenting all foreign nationals within Mzansi’s borders.

The Members of the Provincial Legislature also want stricter border management and control.

“These measures will aid in the effective identification and apprehension of individuals involved in criminal activities, particularly those committed by foreign nationals,” says the committee.

The committee also commended the Orlando East community for banding together to bring the alleged perpetrator to justice.

“The arrest of the suspect through collaborative efforts between the police and members of the community as demonstrated in this case, is a powerful tool in fighting crime and ensuring that justice is served,” says the committee.
