Social media users have commended American rapper, Joseph Cartagena popularly known as Fat Joe, for not abandoning his child when he needed him most.
The rapper in a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, detailed how he stepped up and made the decision to keep his son, Joey, who was born with Down Syndrome and Autism.
The hip hop star was 19 at the time.
Fat Joe says even though their doctor told them that it would be a lot of work taking care of a child with Down’s Syndrome and Autism, he dedicated his life to being there for him.
“His mother was like ‘Yo, I can’t do this. I’m going to have to give him up for adoption,'” said Fat Joe in the interview.
He says his mother was also against giving the child away for adoption and his parents have been helping him raise Joey.
While Joey’s mother has never visited the young man who is now 33, the rapper says their son is available for her to see him whenever she desires.
Fat Joe, who recently hosted the BET Hip Hop awards, says quitting on Joey was never an option for him.

Fat Joe’s decision is a powerful reminder that true strength is found in love and commitment. He chose family over convenience, showing that no challenge is greater than the bond of a parent’s heart. Inspiring to see a father stand tall for his son, no matter what.
