Bob Cuts Hair Salon has once again come under fire for alleged unfair labour practice.
A former employee at the famous salon, Lungelo Khoza, recently took to X to share her experience at the establishment. She alleges that she had to work Monday to Monday with no leave and off days.
Khoza details how they would often leave the salon in the Joburg CBD late in the evenings. While their employer would sometimes Uber them, at times they would be forced to undertake the risky path of finding their way home through taxis.
“Despite making R21 000 in sales for them, when pay day came, I experienced delays and unapproved deductions including UIF. The last time I checked, I did not give them [boss] my tax number, nor did she even know my surname to date.”
Khoza says she attempted to reach out to the company’s boss, with little to no success.
Khoza says seeing all her hard work go down the drain has been really heartbreaking.
She’s urged young people to always run background checks before taking any job offer.
“Learn to stand up for what you are working towards. I think everyone goes through life knowing what they want and it’s just heartbreaking to see an elderly person break you down just like that.”
A number of other people have come out to share their stories on social media.
YNews reached out to the owner of Bob Cuts Salon, Geraldine Kganakga, who said she can only respond to the allegations on Wednesday as she is still finalising calculations.
This is not the first time the salon is accused of exploiting workers.
In 2020, YNews sister channel, eNCA, ran an exposΓ© on Kganakga’s alleged shenanigans.
The scandal comes in the wake of exploitation claims at some of the country’s posh eateries after another heartbroken and disillusioned young person recently blew the whistle on the posh Menlyn restaurant, Babel, which led to the arrest of a number of employees and the owner for flouting immigration laws.
