“We are still unemployed and in need of job opportunities,” cried out the young people of Soweto, Johannesburg, during their march earlier today.

They marched to Joburg Mayor Dada Morero’s office in Braamfontein following his now retracted suggestion that foreign nationals be hired as JMPD officers to help clamp down on criminality.

The young people say Morero’s suggestion is a proof that there are jobs available in the city.

They filled three boxes with their CVs, saying all they want is to be employed so they can take care of their needs and those of their families.

The young people wanted Morero to address them. However, to their disappointment, his chief of staff, Tsumbo Nephawe, stood in his place.

They have given the Mayor seven days to respond to their demands.

One of the protest leaders, who is part of Operation Dudula, says the city is on autopilot and needs leadership.

Social media has been abuzz with many calling for government to intervene in their plight.
