Social media has been abuzz after images and videos surfaced showing the ‘prestigious’ Miss Universe Nigeria.

The spotlight has been on the pageant after the ‘controversial’ Chidimma Adentshina was recruited to take part in it following her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa competition.

Adetshina dropped out of the Miss SA competition amid backlash and a looming court case just two days before the finale.

She is now representing Taraba state in Nigeria and the 23-year-old law student, insists she is proud to be South African and Nigerian.

She has few days to learn the customs of Taraba State as she grew up in South Africa.

The veracity of her place of birth is still in question.

Despite this, however, the people of Nigeria, including her fellow contestants, have welcomed her with open arms.

Speaking at the Miss Universe Nigeria camp, which kicked off on Saturday, some of the contestants say they regard her as their new sister.

Some South Africans have also been rooting for her to win the crown.

Adetshina has been on people’s lips for the past few weeks after South Africans questioned her ethnicity when she entered the SA pageant.

The outcry drew in ministers, leading to a government investigation in which it was found that her mother might have stolen the identity of a South African woman.

She says it’s been a very difficult time for her and her family due to the massive backlash she’s received from South Africans.

The Home Affairs Department has since served her mother with a Promotion of Administrative Justice Act Letter.

The letter affords the person a chance to tell their side of the story before any decision is taken.

It also seeks to protect the public from unlawful, unreasonable and procedurally unfair administrative decisions.

The Hawks are also investigating the matter after the Home Affairs Department identified the officials who registered Adetshina’s birth.

According to the head of the department’s counter-corruption unit, Advocate Constance Moitse, one of the officials has since passed on, whilst two others are still alive.
