Some social media users have thrown their weight behind Algerian boxer and newly crowned Olympic champion, Imane Khelif, after she launched a lawsuit against Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling.

Khelif accuses the two of aggravated cyberbullying.

The 25-year-old has been at the centre of an unpleasant dispute over her gender, with some claiming she is a man who shouldn’t be competing against women.

Musk and the Harry Potter author are some of those who came hard on the boxer after her Italian rival, Angela Carini, abandoned their match, 46 seconds into the rumble.

She had suffered sustained blows from the Algerian boxer who failed a gender eligibility test at the World Championships last year.

Rowling went on a ‘rant’ on X, defending Carini.

Musk also did not hold back.

Speaking in a video that has been circulating on social media, Khelif says all the comments affected her and hurt her.

The complaint over the slander was filed to French authorities by Khelif’s attorney, who says he hopes the prosecution investigates whoever it feels has a case two answer to over utterances made on X.

The medalist’s attorney, Nabil Boudi, says Trump could also be part of the investigation.

Khelif became Algeria’s first gold medalist in women’s boxing and that country’s first boxer, overall, to win gold since 1996.

She was one of two athletes who were cleared to compete in the women’s boxing in Paris after they were disqualified from the 2023 women’s world championships for failing to meet eligibility criteria from the now-banned International Boxing Association.

The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Mark Adams has defended the athlete’s right to compete, saying contenders like them are real people too.

Khelif’s supporters are excited over her decision to seek justice against her ‘aggressors’.
