SACP secretary-general, Solly Mapaila, says it’s better to be irritated by the EFF in the Cabinet than neo-liberal forces like the DA.
A visibly furious Mapaila lashed out at its alliance partner, accusing them of being sellouts in their formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU).
Mapaila made the remarks at the Nehawu Political School yesterday.
The SACP has always been vocal in rejecting a GNU governance structure that includes the DA.
The communist party believes that the roots of the DA’s multi-party charter can be traced back to an era of the apartheid oppression of the black majority.
Mapaila says the ANC ignored the SACP in forming the GNU, adding that they went to constitute a government partnership without revolutionary forces backing them.
He says he met with EFF deputy president, Floyd Shivambu, despite some ANC members refusing to engage the red berets on the formation of the current government.
“I did not give up, I went to meet comrade Floyd and said you can’t continue this way. I went to the ANC and there was a back and forth, begging people to focus on the possibly revolutionary path. It is better to be irritated by the EFF in the Cabinet than to be irritated by the neo-liberal forces who want to be dominant and take control of the revolution.”
Mapaila slammed the alleged ANC faction that was impatient and refused to engage Julius Malema’s party.
“They did not want to engage with them, they did not even want to offer them something serious and yet they went to offer these reactionary forces, anti-revolutionary forces, colonial forces so much power.”
He says there was also a faction of the ANC that was helpless and tried to fight for the EFF and ANC partnership.
This comes two days before the opening of Parliament on Thursday.
The opening of the National Assembly will mark the start of the new parliamentary cycle.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will have an opportunity to give a rundown of the key priorities of the 7th administration under the Government of National Unity.
