Social media has been abuzz after the woman who killed Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla, said she was ready to get back into the music business.

Yolanda Saldívar, who is set to be parolled in March next year, says she would like to work with Shakira as she faces the prospect of a new chapter in her life.

The former nurse, now 63 years old, was sentenced to 30 years behind bars for the 1995 murder of Selena at a Corpus Christi, Texas hotel.

Yolanda served as the president of the Grammy winner’s fan club and manager of her boutiques before the Selena’s family fired her for embezzlement from both organisations in early March 1995.

Selena went to meet Saldívar planning to fire her as she believed that Saldívar had embezzled more than $60 000.

During their encounter, Saldívar shot the Latino hitmaker in the back and the singer died from blood loss at a hospital later that day.

At trial, attorneys for Saldívar claimed that the shooting was accidental, and she had meant to kill herself.

Now the former nurse has expressed a desire to rejoin the workforce, specifically highlighting an ambition to collaborate with international superstar Shakira.

Saldívar says all she wants to do is to reintegrate into society and find employment.

Her recent mention of Shakira in her future plans has grabbed people’s attention with some saying she shouldn’t be released.

While the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer nor a rep from her team has said anything, her fans have set social media ablaze with a mix of posts ranging from anger to fear.
