South Africa’s breakout star, Tyla, ties with global icon Beyonce with four BET nominations.
The Grammy Award winner has been nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, Viewer’s Choice Award and Best International Act.
Also putting South Africa on the map are Makhadzi and Focalistic, who were nominated in different categories.
The prestigious BET Awards, which were established more than two decades ago to celebrate black entertainers in music, film, sports and philanthropy, will take place on June 30 in Los Angeles.
African global stars such as Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Davido, Lojay, Asake, Tyler ICU, and Seyi Vibes have also received a nod for various categories.
Canadian rapper Drake tops the list, with seven BET nominations this year.
