Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal killing of 5-year-old Ditebogo Junior Phalane.
One suspect is still on the run and police are on his tail.
The suspects face charges of murder, robbery and the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The little boy was shot and killed criminals who were hijacking his father, late in the evening, in Soshanguve.
According to the family, Ditebogo ran out of the house when he heard his father’s car outside, to go and welcome him.
Little did he know that he would be met with a bullet from one of the hijackers, brutally cutting his life short.
Gauteng Police Commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, says the father’s vehicle is yet to be recovered.
“In one of the locations in the house, the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and the second suspect who was found not too far from the crime scene was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. This second firearm has been linked to a car hijacking, which was committed in 2023.”
Mthombeni says they are confident that they have the right suspects.
“We would like to thank the community because we had this breakthrough through the collaborations and cooperation of the communities.”
The five-year-old will be buried in Soshanguve tomorrow.
