Political Analyst, Goodenough Mashego, says removing former president, Jacob Zuma, as the face of the MK Party is tantamount to destroying the political party.

He was responding to MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo’s letter to the IEC, in which he asks for the removal of the former president as the face and leader of the party.

Confirming the receipt of the letter, the IEC said it won’t involve itself in the internal affairs of political parties.

However, the electoral body says it will only act on the instruction of the registered leader of the party, who in this case is Zuma.

Khumalo, who was suspended by the party last month, claims that Zuma ascended to the position of president unlawfully.

Mashego says without Zuma there is no uMkhonto Wesizwe Party and believes that South Africans should be worried about the state of the party, ahead of the polls.

“If the MK Party disintegrates, it will come up with a certain level of chaos amongst those people who have aligned with it, they will likely vent their frustration on property and innocent people, as we have seen in July 2021.”

Mashego says the political storm unfolding in the MK Party is a sign that the party is de-campaigning itself.

The party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, has told YNews that they had not received any letter from Khumalo.

Another letter purported to be from Khumalo directed to Zuma has also surfaced on social media.

In the letter, Khumalo informs Zuma that he has been placed on precautionary suspension for alleged misconduct.

Khumalo has not been available for comment on the matter.

This while the debate on who installed Zuma as the leader of the party continues on social media.
