Joyous moment for SA as The Joy graces Coachella

South Africans have taken to social media to congratulate a local group, The Joy, for their performance with Grammy award-winning superstar, Doja Cat, at Coachella.

Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, popularly known as “Doja Cat”, and who father is a South African actor and dancer, was the headline act for the final night of the first weekend of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Coachella has become quite the international phenomenon, becoming known for their high-profile live appearances.

Doja Cat’s inclusion of the group of five teenage boys from Hammarsdale, in Mpumalanga, has been dubbed as a great achievement for the group.

The group comprises of Pastor (Ntokozo Bright Magcaba), Duzie (Melokuhle Mkhungo), Guduza (Sphelele Hlophe), Sthombe (Phelelani Sithole) and Marcus (Sanele Ngcobo).

This proud moment comes after the group released a single, You Complete Me, and also announced news of their debut album that will be released in June.

The teens also appeared on the The Jennifer Hudson Show this year.

The group has been working on the international stage, having made their UK debut during the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury and also featured in Jools Holland’s 30th-anniversary celebration.

Videos of the group’s performance on stage with Doja Cat have gone viral with many praising the superstar for bringing the group on stage.

Doja Cat is the daughter of South African actor, Dumisani Dlamini, who is also from Durban.

Dlamini, is well known for his role as “Crocodile” in popular film ‘Sarafina’ but Doja Cat says she has actually never met him.
