Students around Braamfontein, in Johannesburg, say they feel unsafe as crime is getting out of hand in the area.
This afternoon, three people, including a student, were shot dead following an ambush at Jorissen Street.
Taxi violence is suspected to be behind the attack.
According to the police, unknown suspects opened fire on two men, who were sitting inside a parked BMW sedan.
Two students were allegedly caught in the cross fire as they passed by the vicinity of the incident.
One of them succumbed to his injuries, while the other is said to be in a critical condition in hospital.
Students say criminals wreak havoc in the area in full view of police and traffic officers.
JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, says the motive of the shooting is unknown and investigations into the matter are under way.
South Africans have taken to social media, reacting to the brazen shooting.

Sad to hear the event that occurred in Braamfontein, i’m hopping for everybody’s safety.
Crazy that the cost of democracy is expensive to the point that you can be paying with your life for it.
