With just three days to go until their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-final encounter against five-time champions, Australia, the Proteas have been handed a huge boost after captain Temba Bavuma batted in the nets on Monday without any noticeable discomfort.
Bavuma strained his right hamstring while fielding in South Africa’s last World Cup round-robin match against Afghanistan on Friday.
The 33-year-old then struggled to bat, fuelling speculation that he could miss Thursday’s semi-final against Australia at Eden Gardens.
On Sunday, Cricket South Africa indicated that Bavuma did not go for a scan, which suggested the injury may not be as bad as it initially appeared.
On Monday, he did running exercises without much noticeable discomfort. Article by Ntsako Mkhari
