Yires have been warned to stay hydrated and out of the sun as a heatwave hits the country.

The scorching weather is expected to persist until Sunday.

Speaking to Ynews weather forcaster, Lehlonolo Thobela, says temperatures are expected to hit the high 30s in some areas, with highs of 35 degress celcius.

Thobela is urging South Africans to be cautious.

Pretoria is expected to reach temperatures of about 34 degrees and above, while temperatures in the southern Gauteng side are expected to be about 34 degrees and below.
How to protect yourself the heatwave:
– Stay hydrated during this time by drinking a lot of water.
– Limit any outdoor activities, if you can.
– Also try to wear loose clothing.
– Remain in the shade as much as possible if you decide to go outside.
– Wear sunscreen to protect your skin.
Thobela has also warned parents to take care of their children – who are currently on school holidays until next week.
