The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJoints) says it has mobilised maximum resources from all government departments ahead of the 15th BRICS Summit.
South Africa will host a number of international political heads and organisations at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre from next week Tuesday to Thursday.
Co-chairperson of the NatJoints, Tebello Mosikili, says all law enforcement agencies deployed to secure the event will ensure that the country’s laws are enforced without any compromise.
“Each and every member deployed has a responsibility and an obligation to execute their respective mandates professionally, impartially and with integrity.”
The public has been warned to cooperate with the authorities.
“Members of the public are cautioned against committing any illegal acts as law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to act against anyone who conducts themselves in an unlawful manner. Any threats or disruptions will be dealt with decisively within the ambit of the law, ” says Mosikili.
She says they will also rope in the army should the need arise.
Authorities say they will be conducting heightened roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints as well as air and foot patrols.
Airspace has also been restricted within two nautical miles and 5 000 feet above sea level to the conference venue.
“Those who are found to be operating drones in the vicinity will be in breach of the restriction imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority and as such steps will be taken against those who transgress.”
There will be limited access around the Sandton precinct and the following road closures will be implemented.
