Alleged Parliament arsonist, Zandile Christmas Mafe, has admitted to torching parts of the National Assembly in January last year.
A large fire ravaged parts of the Parliament building, costing the country over R2 billion in repairs.
Today was Mafe’s pre-trial appearance, which was intended to provide feedback on a second psychiatric assessment that he underwent.
However, proceedings took an unexpected turn in the Western Cape High Court, when Mafe called for Parliament to be moved to Pretoria.
“If you don’t take it to Pretoria, it must relocate, it must move here, I burnt it intentionally. Me Christmas Zandile Mafe, I’m goanna burn it more if it does not move to Bloemfontein,” said Mafe.
The alleged arsonist also took a swipe at the Democratic Alliance (DA) accusing the party of being racist.
“I want this Parliament to the majority of the people; it must move here from the white racist right-wing DA.”

He added that the DA must not be in Parliament.
“DA are killers and murderers, they kill blacks… Hellen Zille is just a (meisie) racist right wing.”
Mafe claims that there were protests, calling for his release from prison.
His lawyer, Luvuyo Godla, says they are yet to verify Mafe’s condition and what could have led to his outburst in court.
YNews sister channel, eNCA, spoke to him outside court.

The case has been postponed to the 10th of August to give Mafe’s legal representatives time to consult with him.
