The JMPD officer whose killing was caught on camera has been identified as 38-year-old, Sibusiso Zikalala.
A memorial service for the officer was held on Wednesday afternoon.
He was shot in cold blood on Sunday in Braamfontein amid an argument with an off-duty police officer.
Zikalala was also not on duty.
He had been shouting profanities and daring the SAPS member to take out his gun as he had threatened to, when tragedy struck.
The unnamed police officer opened fire at Zikalala, shooting the 38-year-old with six bullets in his upper body.
Police watchdog, IPID, is investigating a case of murder against the SAPS official, who works for the Parkview Police Station.
The motive behind the two officers’ fight is not yet known.

Social media has been abuzz over the incident with some saying Zikalala had brought death on himself.
This hit a nerve with the JMPD officer’s grieving family with his brother, Sipho Nhlapho, taking to Facebook to pay tribute to his brother.
Β Nhlapo says despite the impression his brother’s utterances and actions on the video might have given to those who don’t know him – the JMPD officer was selfless and never lost his smile.
Nhlapho says the public servant, who has served the City of Johannesburg for 16 years, loved his family and always wanted to protect them.
