Ramaphosa expected to announce relaxed lockdown restrictions

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Thursday to expand on the phased lifting of restrictions, as citizen’s gear up for the last leg of the nationwide lockdown. South Africa has been under lockdown since March 26, in an effort to contain the rapid spread of Covid-19, the lockdown is expected to be lifted on April 30. More than 1300 South Africans return home

The Department of International Relations and Corporations has revealed that more than 1300 South Africans have been repatriated from 17 countries. At the weekend, 80 South Africans were brought back from Italy, 206 arrived from Germany and 35 from Angola. Despite the travel restrictions, South Africans from several countries including Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom and Nigeria, have been able to return. Transport Minister releases Easter weekend road statistics

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has revealed that 28 people died on the roads during the Easter weekend, a significant decrease from 2019 in which 162 fatalities were recorded. Mbalula released the annual Easter weekend statistics on Friday, and said the majority of the deaths were pedestrians and single-vehicle crashes with contributions of 38% and 19% respectively. Companies must obtain new certificates for lockdown extension

The Department of Trade and Industry has announced that companies which supplied essential goods during the 21 days nationwide lockdown are required to obtain new certificates for the duration of the extended lockdown. In a statement the department says companies which are registered through the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission’s (CIPC) BizPortal to perform essential services will be required to have a new certificate from the BizPortal website for the extended period which begins on April 17.
