Motorists will see only a one-cent reduction in petrol prices from Wednesday, following last month’s record-breaking fuel price increases.
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced that both grades of petrol will decrease by one cent per litre, while diesel prices will come down by between R1.10 and R1.20 per litre.
This follows October’s steep fuel price hikes, which saw petrol increase by between R3.21 and R3.33 per litre, pushing the inland price to a record R30.25 per litre. Diesel prices also surged by more than R3 per litre.
Not all fuel users will benefit from the latest adjustments. The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by R2.75 per litre, while the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LP Gas) will rise by R1.83 per kilogram.

The latest adjustments come amid continued pressure from rising international oil prices, a weaker rand and higher shipping costs.

The petrol and diesel price changes also take into account temporary fuel levy relief announced by Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, as part of a R10-billion Treasury intervention to cushion households and businesses against rising fuel costs.

From 4 November until 1 December, the general fuel levy will be reduced by R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3 per litre for diesel.

The relief will continue at a lower rate from 2 December 2026 until 5 January 2027, with the levy reduced by R1 per litre for petrol and R1.50 per litre for diesel.

Despite the intervention, the latest adjustments mean petrol users will see almost no relief at the pumps, while diesel motorists will benefit from a more substantial reduction.
