Zimbabwean businessman, Lawrence Mudzinganyama, who faces charges following an alleged altercation with women at a Randburg restaurant, has been barred from doing business with the state.
Public Works Minister, Dean MacPherson, says Mudzinganyama’s company, Moriel Infrastructure Group, is among 60 non-performing contractors blacklisted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
MacPherson says the company had been under investigation since 2025, when it was served with its first formal notice.
He says concerns were raised over whether Moriel Infrastructure Group had misrepresented its financial and technical capabilities to secure higher CIDB grading designations.
“The company held several high-level grades including 8CE, 8SB, 8SK, 7EP, 7ME and 7GB. It was important that the CIDB addresses these registration concerns through a proper regulatory  process,” Macpherson said.
“The company was afforded an opportunity to respond to the allegations in accordance with our requirements of procedural fairness before the matter was considered by the board.”
The minister added that the subsequent decision to remove Moriel Group followed an investigation and consideration of the evidence through due process, rather than speculation.

Mudzinganyama came under scrutiny after footage showed him in a women’s restroom at Vlamo, hurling insults at women whom he had reportedly demanded to take photographs with.
The 40-year-old faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, crimen injuria and fraud.
The incident also prompted Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, to order an investigation into Moriel Infrastructure Group’s contracts with the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL).
Mudziganyama, who is out on R15 000 bail, is expected back in court on Friday, when a trial date is expected to be determined.
