Zungu accepts defeat, but still wants change

Amazulu owner, Sandile Zungu, is calling for change to the South African Football Association (SAFA) statutes to help the organisation operate more efficiently.

Zungu lost the SAFA presidential race in Midrand over the weekend, receiving 82 votes to incumbent Danny Jordaan’s 157.

The AmaZulu President has vowed not to put himself through the same process again unless things change.

“I wish SAFA was run professionally. I really wish it was run professionally, and there could be, you know, certainty that if you entered any race involving SAFA that you’ll be assured of, you know, fair play because it would be a much easier decision,” he said.

“If I was to throw myself into a same environment with the same kind of rules, that is what is called classical stupidity,” he added.

Reflecting on the result and the future of the association, Zungu emphasised the need for progress over petty disputes.

“We believe that even in the face of defeat, we still believe that we have a responsibility because a lot of people’s livelihoods depend on the good reputation of SAFA,” he said.
