Kaizer Chiefs forwards, Khanyisa Mayo and Pule Mmodi, say there is no bad blood between them following the offside goal incident against AmaZulu FC earlier this month, at FNB Stadium.

During the match, Mayo prevented Mmodi from scoring what would have been his first goal of the season. However, the CR Belouizdad striker, who is on loan at Chiefs, managed to get a touch on the ball before it crossed the goal line — only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Both players have since clarified that there are no hard feelings between them.

“During the game at half-time, we spoke about it, I apologised, he said to me; these things happen – it’s football, it was a lapse of concentration, I wasn’t aware of my surroundings and it happened, we moved on,” Mayo said.

“We spoke about it even after the game, I gave him a call and we spoke about it – and he said no don’t worry, these things happen, it’s done, let’s focus on what is next,” he added.

Mmodi echoed Mayo’s sentiments.

“As he said, this is football it’s been a long time I know Mayo, he’s a striker – who likes to score goals. I never took it personally to ask why would you do that? But everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect, life goes on, because the next day I will need him,” he concluded.
