Controversial businessman, Katiso Molefe and his three co-accused, have now been formally linked to the murders of DJ Vintos and Don Tindleni.

The four briefly appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was postponed to August 6 for a formal bail application.

DJ Vintos, whose real name was Hector Buthelezi, was gunned down outside a nightclub in Orlando East, Soweto, in March 2022, eight months before the murder of popular DJ Sumbody.

According to police, DJ Vintos was ambushed by suspects driving a BMW X5.

Don Tindleni was killed on the N1 highway near the N17 off-ramp, in what authorities believe is part of a broader pattern of targeted killings.

Investigations have revealed that the same AK-47 used in the murders of DJ Vintos, Don Tindleni, and DJ Sumbody was also linked to the murder of whistleblower, Armand Swart.

Swart was gunned down in a hail of bullets in April 2024, in what police suspect was a case of mistaken identity. He was shot 23 times.

National Police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, says while there is still more work to be done, they are happy with the developments.

Mathe also confirmed that the four suspects have been linked to 10 other high-profile cases, all connected by the same firearm.

“It’s not only the firearms we are linking, there’s other evidence that we are taking into account when we are working on this particular case.”

Mathe cautioned against speculation, adding that the motive behind the killings will be revealed in court.

The matter will return to court on August 6 for formal bail application.
