Family confirms body found in Rhodesfield is missing runner Tsontso

The search for Kempton runner, Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, has come to an end after her family positively identified a body found in Rhodesfield as that of the missing 38-year-old.

Moselakgomo was reported missing on Wednesday after she failed to return home from her afternoon run.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death alongside four other cases involving the bodies of women found in Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein.

According to law enforcement authorities, preliminary information points to concerning similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The bodies were found partially clothed and with visible bruising, while the discovery sites are located within the same vicinity.

Police, however, say they have not linked the deaths to a serial killer.

Acting South African Police Service (SAPS) National Commissioner, Puleng Dimpane, says law enforcement will leave no stone unturned in the investigations, while urging women and girls to remain vigilant as the probe continues.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Elizabeth during this extremely painful time. The loss of a loved one under such circumstances is devastating, and we assure the family that the SAPS will do everything within its powers to establish exactly what happened to Elizabeth and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

“We will not rest until we have established the truth. Where there is evidence linking individuals to these crimes, we will pursue them relentlessly and ensure that they face the full might of the law,” said Dimpane.

Kempton Park residents say they are living in fear following the discovery of five bodies in the area between July and September.

Authorities, however, say investigators have made progress, with one suspect already in custody in connection with the first case.

Community members say rising crime levels in the area have heightened concerns about their safety, with some gathering to take their concerns to the Kempton Park Police Station.

“We have a crisis in Kempton Park. Our police station has failed us because they told us when they found the fifth body, and they never told us when they found the second body.  So we are very angry as a community.

“We want answers from our police station. What is going on in Kempton Park? Because we are sick and tired of Kempton Park. Crime is too high in Kempton Park. So we want answers from our station command.”

Residents are calling for increased police visibility and a stronger law enforcement presence in the area to help curb rising crime.
