MP Fadiel Adams arrested on fraud charges

Controversial Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams, has been arrested and is being held at the Cape Town Central Police Station.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team SAPS descended on his parliamentary residence in Cape Town on Tuesday.

The leader of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) faces charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice, for allegedly interfering with investigations into the murder of the late ANC Youth League Leader, Sindiso Magaqa.

Police say the alleged interference involved a convicted hitman at a critical stage of investigations.

Magaqa was killed in a hail of bullets in Umzimkhulu in 2017 after attending an ANC branch meeting. His killer, Sibusiso Ncengwa, was sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment in July last year after admitting to the murder.

National police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said Adams was expected to hand himself over to police on Monday.

“Police have gone through extensive efforts to locate Mr. Adams, including visiting multiple addresses associated with him. Arrangements were made with his attorney to hand himself over on Monday, 04 May 2026, at the Cape Town Central Police Station.

“Mr. Adams was scheduled to appear before a KwaZulu-Natal court on Monday but failed to do so.”

Meanwhile, Adams’ legal team has since filed an urgent application in the Western Cape High Court to challenge the warrant of arrest.

Speaking to the media, Adams said he will not be intimidated.

“I’m not scared, and I’m coming. If I survive this night, you and I are going to dance. So if you’re planning on killing me, this is the time to do it.”

“Forget the political implications, can we focus on the criminal aspect? And can anybody tell me if there’s indeed a criminal aspect? My attorney is sitting with recordings and paperwork that prove everything.”

He also expressed concern for his children, who witnessed his arrest.

The arrest comes two days after Adams opened an intimidation case against SAPS following an alleged raid at his Mitchell’s Plain home over the weekend.

He claimed that about 15 officers linked to the Political Killings Task Team entered the property without a warrant on Saturday morning, allegedly pointing firearms and assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

The politician has accused KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of being behind the raid.

“I do believe that this raid is engineered by Lieutenant General Mkwanazi, the self-proclaimed saviour of the South African Police Services. The weakest form of police commissioner this country has had in 30 years. The coward from KZN who ran away when the country needed him.”
