Police in Gauteng are investigating a case of attempted murder,  following the arrest of two suspects, one of whom the son of the late former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe.

It is alleged that a gardener employed at the Mugabe home in Hyde Park was shot and wounded during an altercation this afternoon.

The dispute is believed to have stemmed from the employee’s failure to report for duty.

The 23-year-old man is reportedly in a critical condition and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, says two men, have now been arrested and are being held at Bramley Police Station in connection with the incident.

“Like I initially indicated, it is two people that have been taken in for questioning. There’s still going to be some more investigation that will have to be done to unravel what happened here today,” she said. “The circumstances are still a bit unclear. But we do have a team that has been combined to investigate the matter.”

Police have not yet officially confirmed his identity.

Nevhuhulwi added that investigations are ongoing and police are still searching for the firearm allegedly used in the incident.
