Orlando Pirates coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, has outlined what his side needs to improve as the Betway Premiership heads into the second half of the season.

While Pirates have kept a very good defensive record, conceding only five in 13 league games, they have not been ruthless in front of goal with only 18 goals scored.

“Since the beginning of the season, our team did a great job and improved in a lot of areas, and for that we have to encourage them to keep working,” said the Moroccan-Frenchman at the club’s media day at Rand Stadium on Wednesday.

“If we have to focus on one area that we have to work more on, it is the last third,” he added.

Ouaddou said Pirates are creating plenty of chances but need to convert more consistently.

“Maybe to be more efficient because we managed to create a lot of chances, and we can see with the data, we are one of the best teams who manage to create most chances in the last third,” he said.

“But to be more efficient, we need to improve in that area,” he added, before tackling the question about games in hand.

After Chiefs play on Wednesday evening, Pirates will have two games in hand on both Mamelodi Sundowns and Amakhosi.

“We are focused on ourselves since the beginning of the season,” Ouaddou said. “I will not lie to you and tell you that we are not looking at the log. But for us, it is important to focus on which area we have to improve, which area we have to keep working on.”
